This week was a little bit different, but I had some pretty neat experiences. One afternoon we were walking down Gran Avenida street, and we were outside the Jumbo when somebody said, ´´Hola Elderes´´. So we turned around and started to talk to him. He turned out to be a really interesting dide, and a little crazy. He told us his story, that he had been baptized and was a member, but had stopped participating in the church. He said he was in the shadows and would like to return, but felt he couldn`t make the changes. He felt that it was too hard, that he was too far gone. He also told us that he was looking for gold in Chile, and that his dream was to go to misouri and build a tall tower, I have no idea why, and that my companion (Elder De Leon) was like a lion ready to pounce. That gave me the idea that maybe he was a little crazy. We invited him ad incouraged him to repent and return to the church again. We also offered to visit him another day and help him make the change, but he said he lived far away. We invited him to go to church, he asked where it was, and he said he would go Sunday. I have to admit that I was a little doubtfull, but at church on sunday we went into the sacrament room and he was the only one there. In the break between Sacrament Meeting and the classes he tried to sneak out, but we caught him and brought hime back. It was a strange miracle finding Jaime.
Saturday we were walking in the unbearable, scorching sun knocking doors. I was dying to get in and share with somebody, because I really had to go to the bathroom. We knocked on one door, and he went to get the keys to open the gate. We found out that the missionaries had passed by before, like 20 years ago, and they had been baptized, but had fallen away from the church. They had only gotten to know a little about the church. They remember recieving wedding anouncements and letters from the first missionaries. We started to share about the restoration, and it went well, despite their daughters beliefs in reincarnation, and a strange misconception in the nature of God and religion.
This week we were able to find Cristofer and Andrea again, after 2 weeks. Andrea had been sick, and had gone to the doctor various times, making it difficult to find them. This week Cristofers brother got asaulted and beaten with a bat, and had to spend a little time in the hospital. On top of that, Andrea went to the doctor and found out that she can`t have any more kids, just Martin. They were a little sad about that, but are going to pay to get it done another way, and if that doesn`t work they will have to adopt, but adopting here in chile is a long wait, years, and complicated process. We were able to have a good lesson with Cristofer, even though he was phisically exhausted from little sleep and worring a lot, but said he was going to pray and look for an answer, if it is really true what we have taught.
We started teaching a Haitian, Akisa, that is really interested in the church, and we have our second appointment today.
On thursday we had a zone service project. It was for an Israelite Congregation church. They were working on building their new chappel, and we helped out and cleaned up a little, and afterwards they gave us lunch. They believe we are in the 3rd Generation (1st- Noah, 2nd- Jesus Christ) and it is funny because the leader of their church who is in peru told them that Joseph Smith was a true prophet. Durring the service there were chickens walking around, and some of the men were wearing funny tunics. Lunch was funny because they just kept passing us plates of bean soup and rice, and just wouldn't stop, we got so full. They were really happy with the service that we did, said we had inspired them to do more service, and said they would like to go to our church meetings. Bring it on, we`ll baptize the whole congragation, LOL. Wierd church, awesome service project. We even shared a spiritual thought after lunch.
2 missionaries from our zone got robbed monday night at knife point. They had a knife up against Elder Jones`s throught, scary huh. They got away with agendas, the phone, keys to the house, and a camera, but don`t worry, they got away with out a scratch.
Yesterday arrived the missionaries from San Miguel Ward, so now we aren`t living alone, and the apartment is a lot funner.
Today for Pday we went bowling, which was entertaining.
So, it was a crazy, fun week. We were able to get in a few doors, return to teach a few investigators, and have unforgettable experiences. We saw miracles happen, that god really does have his hand in this work. I love you all, thanks for writing me, telling me how your week had been, keeping me updated. I love you all, Elder Chandler
